I want to share a photo…

I have recently been helping out on the FdA Photography and BA Media courses at Truro College doing twice weekly studio portrait workshops. And, I have to say, I am very good at it. Ha!

I’ve been talking about lighting set-ups, composition, making decisions, communicating with your sitter and generally pontificating on photography. I actually spend a lot of time thinking about the way I work, why I work the way I do, what I think about photography in general and formulating theories on it. It is a deeply satisfying feeling to be able to share my thoughts with people who are interested in what I have to say and not only take it on board but also put it in to practice. It goes some way to vindicating my ideas as I watch the students improve their understanding and technique in a short space of time. They are enthusiastic, eager to learn and improve and, most importantly, good folk!

I want to share a photo taken today under my guidance by a first year student who has been studying photography for less than a month. This photo was taken by Kristina Sim and was edited (quite sparingly) by myself.
